A Little About Me

I cannot believe that I am teaching my 8th year at Heron Heights and 6th year in Multiage. I would never have imagined landing in a teaching career from where I began, but I wouldn't change a thing.

I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and earned a BS degree in Marketing from Illinois State University. After graduating, I took a job with Brunswick Corporation and operated bowling centers for over 14 years, in 3 states.

While living in Connecticut, I began volunteering in my daughter's 1st grade classroom. I fell in love with seeing the kids wonder and learn. After that school year, I made the switch in careers. I went back to school and earned a teaching degree from Sacred Heart University.

I am always looking to grow as a learner and take that knowledge to the classroom. I'm happy to announce that I am working toward my Gifted Endorsement.

I love being in the classroom. I consider your children one of my own. I have high expectations for each of them.

I credit the Multiage teachers for his success because he has gained confidence in his abilities to mentor Youngers and work alongside his peers. The multiage program has provided wonderful experiences for my daughter to learn at her own pace. Some of the most powerful learning has come from her experiences with classmates both as a “younger” and an “older.” Socially and academically it has provided an environment for her to explore so many new concepts and ways to learn. The teachers on the team are committed to exposing the children to these varied opportunities and challenging them. Most importantly they are completely invested in the program… making it fun to learn!

Our family has been very fortunate to experience the multiage program. As a former teacher this program provides many benefiting factors for children. It builds a community for students and parents that promotes family. It provides a stable learning environment that builds confidence, leadership skills, friendships, and academics. The six teachers collaborate ideas, curriculum, and events going above and beyond for the children. Each year the students look forward to fun extra curricular things planned for example; movie nights, bowling, ice skating, and hockey games. I often refer to “multiage” as our own little private school in a public setting.

We were new to South Florida when we were lucky enough to join the multiage family. For us, multiage made a big school full of new faces, new rules and new teachers much smaller; it made it a family. We are so grateful for the experiences, education, and fun that the multiage program at Heron Heights Elementary has brought into our kids lives.

The Multiage program has been an incredible experience for our family. It is a close knit group, and we are able to get to know the students and their families. It has allowed my son to learn and be inspired by his peers as well as the incredible teachers. It has taught him to be patient and caring with the youngers in his class, and to teach them as well. The annual events within the Multiage program are something the entire family looks forward to!
